TrueToSizeBot
Our catalogue bot, and how to stop it.
TrueToSize keeps a catalogue of size labels and product facts so people can buy the right size. Most of it comes from feeds that brands and retailers send us. A small part is checked against public pages by a bot that identifies itself honestly.
What it is
User agent: TrueToSizeBot/0.1 (+https://fit.madeshed.com/bot). It never pretends to be a browser, never logs in, never solves challenges, and never retries around a block.
What it reads
- Licensed product feeds (CSV or JSON) at the address the brand or retailer gave us.
- For sources we have reviewed and approved one by one: public structured product data (size labels, colour names, list price, availability). Never descriptions, images or customer reviews.
- One request per week to a brand home page to notice a closure, a move or an acquisition.
- Titles and links of news feeds about brands.
How it behaves
- It obeys
robots.txtand skips any path it disallows. - It waits between requests to the same host, caps responses at 2 MB, and uses conditional requests so unchanged pages cost you almost nothing.
- A 401, 403 or 429 response pauses that source until a person has looked at it.
- If your terms forbid automated access, we do not enable a source for your site.
Opting out, or sending a feed instead
Disallow TrueToSizeBot in robots.txt, or write to us and we remove the source the same week. support@madeshed.com If you would rather control exactly what we show, send a product feed in Google Shopping format: it is more accurate for your customers and replaces the bot entirely.
What we publish
Facts, in our own words, with a link to your product page. No images, no marketing copy, no reviews from your site. Prices carry the time we saw them. Nothing a brand pays us changes a size suggestion or a fit score.
