How it works
Anchors, not tape measures.
TrueToSize starts from something you already know: an item you own and how it fits. Everything else follows from that.
1. Your anchor becomes a number
Every category has an internal scale. A bra size becomes band inches plus a cup index, so 32E and 34DD (sister sizes) land on the same volume. A running shoe becomes a US women's length plus a width index; a pair of jeans becomes waist inches. Labels from other systems (UK, EU, men's, alpha) are converted with default tables and marked with lower confidence until a brand chart confirms them.
2. We find reporters shaped like you
Each fit report can carry the reporter's size on that scale and a few coarse shape answers, with their consent. Similarity is a curve, not a cut-off: someone one step away counts about 60%, two steps away about 15%. Shape answers can halve a match but never inflate it.
3. Directions, not stars
For fit, we ask “too tight, just right, too loose” rather than 1 to 5. Averaging would let a product that gaps for half of people and spills for the other half look “just right”. We show the split instead. Satisfaction questions (comfort, durability) do use a 1 to 5 scale, shrunk towards a neutral prior so three enthusiastic reports cannot outrank eighty steady ones.
4. Small samples say so
No summary is shown until at least five different people have reported. Counts are rounded (5+, 10+, 25+) and the “kept it and it fits” rate is a conservative lower bound, so a lucky streak of three cannot look like a sure thing. The public site never shows generated or sample reports.
5. Your size on a product
We take your closest anchor (same brand first, then same category), convert it to the product's label system, then nudge it by what similar people reported: if they mostly found the band tight, we suggest one step up and say why. The suggestion is a starting point; the brand chart and return terms still apply.
6. Pass it forward
When something did not fit, the listing records where, in the same vocabulary as the reports. That is what lets a pair that ran narrow for one person be shown to someone whose reports say the same model runs roomy. TrueToSize never touches money; handoffs happen locally or through a platform you already use. Wanting to pass an item on never changes how its report is weighted.

No affiliate rate, sponsorship or brand payment is an input to any score, suggestion or ordering. If a link on this site ever earns anything, it is labelled beside the link, and the ordering above it is computed without it.
